Choosing Your Acting Career Direction: Child Actor LA

28 May 18 - 05:04

Once you have learned about the basic fundamentals of acting, you will then have to decide which route you are going to take with your acting career. There is no right or wrong choice, it is purely down to you and what feels right for your career. Do not be persuaded by others to follow a path that does not feel right for your needs.

Therefore, if you have now already completed a drama course to study the basics of acting, you can then choose whether you wish to study further education, specifically for acting. This could be in the form of an acting academy or two to three-year course studying drama at a university.

If you choose to take this route, please be aware that the courses will be far more expensive and the places for the courses will be limited. You will be competing for a placement with others acting students from around the country or even from around the world.

If you are applying for a placement at a renowned acting academy or university, each application will be scrutinized thoroughly. As the selection process is so thorough, there is a chance that you will not be deemed sufficiently qualified to be accepted, when compared to other applicants.

Therefore, it is best to do some research on the guidelines for application to an academy or university, before submitting your request, as you may be disappointed if you are not accepted. This may also mean you then cannot apply to another academy/university until the next term, if you have missed the application deadline.

There are going to be pro's and con's for training at an academy or university, so you must take this into account. The pro's are that at the end of your training, you will have an accredited qualification, which will look great on your acting resume and may give you the edge over another acting résumé.

The con's are that you will be qualifying with hundreds or possibly thousands of other drama students who will also have the same qualifications on their resume, plus it will cost you several thousand pounds/dollars to complete a two to three-year drama course.

You should therefore calculate whether the cost and the length of time you will have to apply to studying, is worth obtaining the acting qualification and determine whether it will it give you a better advantage over other actors.

If you choose not to enroll in an acting academy or university, you can choose instead to keep auditioning for different acting roles. Again there are many acting opportunities listed on websites on the Internet which you can apply for. These could be for film, television, theatre or even for commercials.

In the same length of time that a drama course at an academy or university would take to complete, you could have gained a wealth of experience and knowledge from attending auditions and even acting roles for anything from theatre to film, which you can then add to your résumé.

So the direction of your career should be based on what you feel is more important for your acting résumé. If you feel an accredited acting qualification with no acting experience is more important; pursue the application into an acting academy or university.

If you feel that having hands on experience of multiple acting roles, but not having an acting qualification, looks better on your résumé, it would be best to apply for and attend as many acting auditions as possible.

Only you can decide which route you would like to pursue and which you feel is more important for your acting career. However, its advisable that you ensure you have considered both options fully, before making your final decision.
